Blanchard taught his son-in-law and renowned designer Allan Adler (the silversmith to the stars) the craft of silversmithing and was the one of the founders of the Arts amp Crafts movement in California, after moving from Boston where 5 generations had been in silversmithing. Blanchard bridged the Arts and Crafts and Modern movements.
